WBPSC Sub Surveyor Recruitment 2026 – Overview

The West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) has invited online applications for 1,145 Sub-Surveyor posts under the Directorate of Land Records and Surveys. Candidates holding a Diploma in Survey Engineering or a Surveyor ITI certificate with the prescribed experience can apply. 📋

Online applications started on 20 October 2026, and the last date to submit the form is 9 November 2026 (3:00 PM). The post carries Pay Level 7 salary of ₹24,700 to ₹63,900 per month.

All 1,145 posts are for the single post of Sub-Surveyor, with reservation as follows:

Eligibility Criteria

There are two qualifying routes. Madhyamik (or equivalent) pass is required under both routes.

Route 1 – Diploma: Madhyamik or equivalent plus a three-year Diploma in Survey Engineering from an institute recognised by AICTE or the West Bengal State Council of Technical Education. No separate experience is required for this route.

Route 2 – ITI: Madhyamik or equivalent plus a two-year Surveyor certificate course from a recognised Industrial Training Institute, together with one year of prescribed Survey and Settlement work experience. The experience must include working knowledge of DGPS and/or Electronic Total Stations, must be gained in a government-empanelled organisation or qualifying GIS/surveying company, must be supported by a certificate mentioning employment period, duties, field of experience and pay details, and must be completed by the application closing date.

Bengali language: candidates must be able to read, write and speak Bengali; candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali are exempt from this requirement.

Selection Process

The selection process has three stages:

1. Paper I (Bengali / Nepali) – Qualifying only: conventional/descriptive paper of 50 marks, 1 hour duration. Minimum qualifying marks are 15 out of 50 (30%).
2. Paper II (Objective) – Merit paper: 200 MCQs in 2 hours 30 minutes — English (50 marks), Elementary Mathematics (50 marks), Survey Engineering (100 marks). Each correct answer carries 1 mark; 0.25 mark is deducted for each wrong answer. The final merit list is prepared on Paper II marks only.
3. Document Verification and final recommendation subject to eligibility and the recruitment rules.
